    1. Master’s Degree in the field of education; a special education concentration or degree preferred
    2. Possess Standard Certificate in a field of special education, school psychologist, LDTC or school social worker

      REPORTS TO:Superintendent of Schools and Assistant Superintendent of Schools as assigned
      JOB GOAL: Director of Special Services supervises and supports the District’s Special Services with District-wide leadership duties relevant to the efficient provision of educational services to students who require special education and related services as well as academic and emotional/behavioral support services. 

      1. Cooperates with building principal/administration to plan, coordinate, and evaluate students for Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 eligibility pursuant to Board policy.
      2. Participates in the development and implementation of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 programs, procedures and inservices.
      3. Ensures district compliance with regulations and legal requirements regarding Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.
      4. Works collaboratively with departmental and district administrative staff, Child Study Team Members, Related Service Providers, Teacher Coordinators and the District Head Nurse to implement district goals and objectives.
      5. Assumes regular oversight of Program Supervisors, Child Study Teams and Related Services Providers, BCBAs and teachers for the purposes of research, development, implementation and evaluation of student support and special education programs.
      6. Assists Child Study Teams and Related Services Providers for the purpose of ensuring the provision of FAPE for eligible students in accordance with Federal and State requirements, including but not limited to: NJDOE Administrative Code and Policies, Child Find, Individuals with Disabilities Act regulations, and the mandate for thorough and efficient educational services.
      7. Conducts regular audits of IEPs and 504 plans in conjunction with the Program Supervisors and staff evaluations.
      8. Prepare for and attend mediation, due process and resolution meeting(s) all appearances before the Office of Administrative Law.
      9. Supports and facilitates the services of the Assistive Technology and district behaviorists and to ensure efficient implementation of programming and evaluation.
      10. Communicates and conferences with parents as needed and promotes the quality and sustainability of a special education parent advisory group.
      11. Assists in the development and implementation of the budget for the Department.
      12. Performs other related duties and responsibilities as needed and directed by the assigned Assistant Superintendent of Schools and Superintendent of Schools.
